This 2022 movie preview will be updated throughout 2022 with new trailers and information as it comes in so please come back to this page frequently.

Some movies may only release in 3D in locations outside of the United States and vice versa. Even if a specific movie does have a 3D version available your local theaters may decide to not have 3D screenings or to have very limited showings. The Covid-19 pandemic is ongoing and your local theaters may or may not be open or have limited hours. COVID-19 is the biggest wild card in 2022 and it may cause more delays or more limited region specific 3D releases. Sony has a good track record of releasing its big name movies in 3D. Uncharted is a huge PlayStation video game franchise from Naughty Dog. Action movies like this have lots of potential to look wonderful in 3D. It is very sad that this video game inspired movie will not release in 3D. The third Uncharted game (Drake’s Deception) on Playstation 3 even released with a 3D option so it’s especially sad that this Uncharted movie won’t be released in 3D.

Lately WB has not been releasing its movies in 3D. We can currently buy tickets for The Batman and no theaters near us have it showing in 3D. We think the more adult comic book movies are less likely to be released in 3D. That would explain why The Sucidie Squad and Birds of Prey and The Joker movies did not release in 3D but the more general audience comic book movies like Aquaman and Wonder Woman got 3D Releases. We don’t know for sure but we hope that other upcoming DC comics movies releasing this year will get a 3D release.

Turning Red is the third Pixar animated movie (Soul & Luca are the other two movies) in a row to get a direct to Disney + release. This is sad because animated movies usually look fabulous in 3D. Cross your fingers and wish upon a star for a possible 3D Blu-ray for Turning Red.

The last few Disney live action fairytale remakes have been released in 3D (Maleficent 1& 2, The Jungle Book, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast). Not all Disney live action movies have been released in 3D (Mary Poppins Returns, Christopher Robin, and Tomorrow Land). This is why we give this a low probability of 3D release.

Lucky Prescott (Isabela Merced, Dora and the Lost City of Gold) never really knew her late mother, Milagro Navarro (Eiza González, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw), a fearless horse-riding stunt performer from Miradero, a small town on the edge of the wide-open frontier.

Like her mother, Lucky isn’t exactly a fan of rules and restrictions, which has caused her Aunt Cora (Academy Award® winner Julianne Moore) no small amount of worry. Lucky has grown up in an East Coast city under Cora’s watchful eye, but when Lucky presses her own luck with one too many risky escapades, Cora picks up stakes and moves them both back with Lucky’s father, Jim (Oscar® nominee Jake Gyllenhaal), in Miradero.

Lucky is decidedly unimpressed with the sleepy little town. She has a change of heart when she meets Spirit, a wild Mustang who shares her independent streak, and befriends two local horseback riders, Abigail Stone (Mckenna Grace, Captain Marvel) and Pru Granger (Marsai Martin, Little). Pru’s father, stable owner Al Granger (Emmy winner Andre Braugher, Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine), is the best friend of Lucky’s father.

When a heartless horse wrangler (Emmy nominee Walton Goggins, FX’s Justified) and his team plan to capture Spirit and his herd and auction them off to a life of captivity and hard labor, Lucky enlists her new friends and bravely embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to rescue the horse who has given her freedom and a sense of purpose, and has helped Lucky discover a connection to her mother’s legacy and to her Mexican heritage that she never expected.

Spirit Untamed is the next chapter in DreamWorks Animation’s beloved franchise that began with the 2002 Oscar-nominated film Spirit: Stallion of Cimarron and includes an Emmy-winning TV series. The screenplay is by Aury Wallington (Netflix and DreamWorks Animation Television’s Spirit Riding Free) and Kristin Hahn (Dumplin’). Dreamworks has a fantastic 3D track record with their animated movies. The last few major animated movies (How To Train Your Dragon The Hidden World , The Croods New Age, Boss Baby) were released in 3D. The trailer, official website, and poster not mentioning the 3D aspect of this movie. We still think that this movie has a high probability of releasing in 3D.

In the United States no Furious movie has released in 3D. The last Furious movie : Hobbs and Shaw was scheduled to release in 3D in the United States, but the 3D was pulled at the last moment. One interesting thing to note is that within the ‘stereo’ section of dneg.com it mentions F9. Dneg.com does many 3D movie conversions. So maybe F9 will get a 3D release but the probability is low.

Before the covid-19 pandemic we saw trailers for Jungle Cruise in 3D. Overall Disney has a fantastic track record of releasing its movies in 3D. The newest trailer even mentions 3D so we have no reasons to doubt that Jungle Cruise will release in 3D.

3D Confidence Rating - 🔶 Low Probability

R-rated comic book movies have a poor track record of releasing in 3D (Dredd). The director James Gunn seems to like 3D and has used it in the two Guardians of the Galaxy movies. 3D is not mentioned in the trailer, poster or the official website. The probabilities for a 3D release of The Suicide Squad (2021) does’t look good. In fact they look so bad that a petition has already been created to release this in 3D via Change.com.

This one is interesting. 3D is not mentioned in the trailer, poster or the official website. All that being said we have one trump card that gives us hope. Joe Hägg the 3D Producer/ Supervisor for Twentieth Century Fox has Free Guy in this current title on Linked In. Does this mean that Free Guy is a 3D movie ? Overall the possibility of this movie being released in 3D is low but there is a chance.

The Paw Patrol franchise is geared toward little kids. Usually animated kids movies are released in 3D but when the movies are targeted for toddlers the 3D usually gets jettisoned. This movie probably has the lowest possibility of releasing in 3D of all the other summer 2021 movies.
